For over 86 years the citizens of St. Matthews and Eastern Jefferson County have been protected from fires and other disasters by a group of highly trained and motivated men and women. During those 86 years some 500 people have passed through the membership rolls of the St. Matthews Fire Department. Each of those 500+ firefighters has given of his or her time, talent and energy, many without compensation, to help provide a safer community.
The membership roster includes people from all different walks of life. There have been farmers, cobblers, mechanics, dairymen, small business owners, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, career firefighters, students and others. What all of these diverse individuals share is a love of community, professionalism, and a desire to serve.
