Wind Chill Advisory issued January 30 at 12:36PM EST until January 30 at 5:00PM EST by NWS Louisville …Dangerously Cold Wind Chills Today… .Temperatures in the single digits combined with gusty west to northwest winds have resulted in dangerously cold wind chills. …WIND CHILL ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM EST /4 PM CST/ THIS AFTERNOON… * WHAT…Very cold wind chills. Wind chills as low as 15 below zero. * WHERE…Portions of east central, north central and south central Kentucky. * WHEN…Until 5 PM EST /4 PM CST/ this afternoon. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The Winter Weather Advisory expires at 9 am EST or 8 am CST. Snow has ended for the most part, although there still could be a few snow showers for the rest of the morning. Some roads still remain slick, so continue to drive with caution! A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect. A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves.

At 5:45 a.m., the Clinton Fire Department’s on-duty crew responded to a reported smoldering fire in a silo storage bin at Archer-Daniels-Midland loading facility. At 7:00 a.m., the scene was handed off to the next crew coming on-duty which included Lieutenant Eric Hosette. Nearly two hours later at 8:45 a.m., Hosette was injured in an explosion at the scene. Hosette was transported to Mercy Medical Center where, despite all efforts, he passed away. A second firefighter was critically injured during the explosion but survived.

The combination of strong northwesterly winds and snow showers could result in reduced visibilities and difficult travel conditions for a short timeframe tonight. Captain Christopher Truman stopped to assist individuals involved in a single-vehicle accident. While assisting, Truman was hit by another vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away from his injuries.
