The American Red Cross hosted a “Battle of The Badges” Community Blood Drive on June 4, 2019 at the St. Matthews Community Center. The “Battle of The Badges” was a “friendly battle” set up to motivate some to give a little blood. The nation’s blood supply is currently critically low. This is of great concern going into summer because blood donations historically decrease during these months. The community of St. Matthews did their part and came out to donate. St. Matthews fire trucks and ambulances from all 4 stations rotated through and visited with those who showed up. Fire Trucks must be a good draw and more popular than police cars. Our friendly competition, “Battle of the Badges” between the St. Matthews PD and St. Matthews FD resulted in an overwhelming victory for the firefighters. There were 23 firefighter donations to the 6 police officer donations! Although the police lost the battle we do appreciate everything they do for our community and really appreciate the blood donations given by the extra special six. Thank you to everyone who turned out to help save lives by donating blood! #FirefightersRule
